Pickford Does The Treble!
Mike Barnes 's Alsager Bridgestone certainly made a name for themselves at this years Cheshire 's County Championship
Alsager Swimmer Sam Pickford did the treble in style in the 50m, 100m and 200m 13 Years Breaststroke claiming Gold in all 3 races. He also “picked it up” to win a further 3 silver medals in the 50m &100M butterfly and the 100m backstroke.
Sam 's achievements inspired the others and next on the podium was James Owen with a well-deserved gold medal in the Boys 16 Years 100m breaststroke. He led the race from start to finish and surprised everyone with a new personal best time of 1.13.56. Not to be out done by his brother, Steve Owen carried Alsager's rich vein of form into the finals as he picked up a bronze medal in the Men 's Open 50m breaststroke with a time of 32.16.
The Men 's Open 50m and 100m Butterfly were next with club captain Gary Johnson in the water. Gary did not disappoint and achieved two silvers, losing out only by a fingernail in both races. Then up stepped Ben Legge, achieving 2 personal bests, to claim two 4th places. Taylor Bright, Harriett Carr, Ryan Jones, Kitty Price, James Walker, Thilina Silva and Alex Tan all achieved Personal Best times and all finished in the top 8.
Coach Mike Barnes applauded a fine swim by Amy Priestman as she achieved a 5 second personal best time in the demanding 200m I.M. Deadly duo Matt and Tom Price both picked up Personal Best times in the 100m freestyle, their hard training certainly paying off.
Over the two weekends of the Championships Alsager Bridgestone were once again proud of their achievements. Head coach Mike Barnes 's prediction of 6 medals would have been awesome, but instead Alsager went four better and achieved 10 Medals which included 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze, 11 new club records and 33 Personal Best times!
The Championships not only produced a medal haul but swimmers Sam Pickford, Gary Johnson, Steve Owen and James Owen all achieved qualifying times to represent the club at the North West Regional Championships in Liverpool and Manchester. All swimmers are hoping to build on their current successes and are looking to put Alsager Bridgestone Swimming Club firmly on the map. Mike Barnes added, “What the swimmers have achieved at the Cheshire's is phenomenal and I'm very proud to be Head Coach of Alsager Bridgestone.” Club Mascot (The Frog) also added “Pick It Up!”
CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE AND ALL!!!
